Why do hair stylists use foil when doing highlights?

What is the purpose of the foil and what would happen without it?Why do hair stylists use foil when doing highlights?
when hair is to long to pull through a highlighting cap I use foil or when I only want certain pieces to get highlighted and so on. The use in foil is that it wont ';bleed'; onto the other hair around it and also when the bleach warms up the foil is receptive to that which makes it process faster. Why do hair stylists use foil when doing highlights?
Foil is used just to keep the hair and colors separate. Some stylist use different types of paper too. I doesn't necessarily have to be foil. Foil is most regularly used because it's easy to manipulate and it stays where you put it.
it's to keep certain areas free of the chemicals, otherwise you'd just be bleaching it all, hence no highlights
I asked my stylist the same question and she said that it is to make sure the the product doesn't bleed onto other strands of hair and ruin the ';highlight'; effect.
It is to prevent the dye from transferring onto the rest of your hair!! if foil wasn't use the you wouldn't really have highlights because the dye would spread all over!! hope that helps!!
The foil keeps the hair color separated without seepage. It is a more precise way for hairstylists when applying highlights.
