tell the person you want it cut with a razor, you also want lots of choppy layers and you don't want your layers blended. that is key, you do not want your layers blended. Also tell he/she you want your firs layer in the back to be very short. a very short top layer will give you extra volume without the effort.
but it is still a good idea to bring a picture so the stylist has a visual to work from.

Just tell them to razor it, and make it have lots of chunky layers, mostly on top.
also if you gave them pics and they still have no idea maybe go to a better hair stylist..
