So I was looking at the ads for hair stylist jobs.....and it seems like they all want experienced stylists! I'm a little scared! After school, are they going to give me a chance as a fresh graduate!?Starting out as a hair stylist?
Dont be scared. Alot of salons will give you chance but it depends also of the how much you have learned in school. Most frequently salon wont put you right away on the floor. they will ask you first to assist and observe. Some are reluctant about being an assistant but you will learn alot as an assistant also and if you are very patient youll get there. Because being a hair stylist is not just skill you also have to use alot of thinking, balancing cuts, geometry of the hair, you also have to deal with chemicals. So brush up all youve learned and apply it in skills.Starting out as a hair stylist?
I have been out of school for about 3 years now. I am still new at this as well. I would suggest going to a Super Cuts or a franchise similar. I was really scared and to this day I still get scared. I avoided private salons because I was intimidated being fresh out of school. I wanted someone to help and guide me along. Being out in the real world is totally different from hair school. I want to specialize in hair cutting and hair color. Any suggestion where I can take additional classes. Any websites I can look at.
Thanks Stacie
Chain Salons are best for starting out cause you can get hourly pay . Commissions are tough on experienced stylist right now as hard as things are getting. And its a learning experience. I started out at J.C. Penneys they have lots of free color and cutting classes to help you also.hope this helps
Thats what Im worried about too Ive been asking and they always choose the experienced stylist over me cause I just graduated but I should find something soon I mean everyone has to start somewhere right?
