How do I find out how to get licensed in the UK after going to school in the US. I have 2000 hours of training and am looking to move to London in April to work at a salon my friend is opening. Anyone know how I would go about getting licensed abroad?US hair stylist moving to London.?
I use to live there and now am in the usa.I would first start with the legal procedure called entry clearance to gain entry into the uk to be allowed to live and work in the uk.If you want to come to live or work in the UK, go to the website of the UK Border Agency (previously called the Border and Immigration Agency), which explains the process and provides all the information you will need:
www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk
The cost for this is around $500 and the place to start is right here in the usa as the immigration office for the uk(called the british consulate) should be in your state and usually found in a major city. This is where you need to start first to obtain the entry clearance because without that you cannot legally entry the country.Your own passport is your visa for travel. You can legally live in the uk for only 6 months but you will need to ask them at the uk british consulate office if you can legally start work right away in the uk after gaining entry into the country.I know for a fact that people who go there for marriage cannot work for that 6 month period so please ask them first because your situation is for working so is a different reason.
After that you will be required to apply for a 2 year stay to be able to live and work legally in the uk.This is called a 2 year stay visa and they will take a photo of you and place it inside your passport along with their official stamps. This too is around $500
After the 2 year stay comes the permanate residence application which can be obtained in either London or Liverpool. And yes you guessed it...another $500 and hopefully their prices haven't gone up again.
Lastly is the website for hairdressers which is...http://www.tameside.gov.uk/licensing/hai鈥?/a>
I wish you the best of luck with your new job and by the way you will totally LOVE london :) ps...try the ham and cheese pasties they are yummy ....sorry so longUS hair stylist moving to London.?
